Choosing the Right Heated Staircase Mat
110 V or 220 V. Match the mat to the building supply: 110 V for North American projects, 220–230 V for European, UK and most export markets. Mixing voltages on one staircase is not recommended — keep the circuit consistent.
Size per tread. A heated staircase mat should cover the full tread depth plus the nosing overhang where snow slides. Use 30×90 cm on residential steps and 50×90 cm on commercial public treads; never overlap mats on adjacent steps — PTC aside, these fixed-wattage panels must sit flat and dry.

Do these mats need a thermostat or snow sensor?
They run direct from a switch, but we strongly recommend pairing the circuit with one of our smart thermostats or a snow/ice sensor, so power flows only during freezing moisture — the running-cost saving typically pays for the controller in one season.
Can the mats be removed in spring?
Yes. Plug-in stair mats are portable: roll them up after winter, store them dry, and redeploy them next season. Embedded ground mats stay in place and are simply switched off.
