Overview
The Driveway Snow & Ice Melting Mat is a flexible, factory-built electric driveway snow and ice melting mat designed to lay flat on outdoor surfaces and melt snow and ice automatically, so driveways, walkways, roofs and ramps stay clear without a shovel, a plough or a scattering of salt. A resistive heating element is laminated inside a weatherproof jacket, and the whole sheet delivers even heat across its area instead of warmth only along a single wire.
This driveway snow and ice melting mat runs at 110–120 V / 220–240 V AC (selectable) with an output of approx. 300–500 W/m², and is built to be either surface-laid over existing paving or embedded under concrete, asphalt and pavers during a new build. You can browse the driveway snow and ice melting mat catalogue to see the rest of the family, and every mat is backed by the same factory engineering and testing as the rest of the SunAura outdoor heating range.

Application Scenarios
- Residential driveways – Clears the car width so vehicles never pack ice into the surface.
- Concrete & asphalt drives – Embedded under new or resurfaced driveways for a permanent solution.
- Paver driveways – Laid beneath interlocking pavers, invisible once finished.
- Commercial forecourts – Keeps customer parking and access lanes open through snow events.
Choose a sheet sized to the actual area you walk or drive on – there is no need to heat the whole surface, just the critical paths. If your project spans more than one of the scenes above, our engineering team can size a matched set across the snow melting mat collection so every zone has the right output.
How It Works
Inside the flexible sheet, a resistive heating element warms up when mains voltage is applied, and the heat transfers evenly through the jacket to the surface above. When the mat is paired with a snow/ice sensor, the circuit switches on only when the sensor detects both moisture and a temperature near freezing – so the mat is idle on dry, mild days and active the moment a storm begins. Because the heat is spread across the whole mat rather than along a single line, the surface melts uniformly and water drains away cleanly instead of refreezing in strips.
This anti-icing approach – keeping the surface just above freezing so snow never bonds – uses far less energy than waiting for a heavy layer of ice to build up and then trying to thaw it. A matched smart thermostat or sensor controller lets you set the thresholds and review operation from an app on larger commercial jobs.
Installation Guide
The mat is delivered as a pre-wired, flexible sheet with a cold tail ready to connect. For a surface installation, clean and level the paving, unroll the sheet flat across the area, fix the edges with the recommended fixings, and route the cold tail to a weatherproof junction box. For an embedded installation, lay the mat on a compacted base, secure it at the stated spacing, and pour concrete, asphalt or pavers over it – measuring the resistance before and after the pour to confirm the element survived.
Every outdoor circuit must be finished by a qualified electrician, protected by the earth-leakage device required by local wiring rules, and switched from a snow/ice sensor rather than a simple on/off timer. Do not cut or shorten a fixed-output mat on site; if the area is awkward, order the correct size from us and we will engineer the layout to fit.
Safety & Certifications
The mat carries an IP67 waterproof rating for continuous outdoor and wet-location duty, and the non-slip textured jacket is designed for safe foot traffic. It is certified CE and RoHS, manufactured under ISO 9001 quality control, and every sheet undergoes resistance and insulation testing before dispatch. Always operate the mat on a protected outdoor circuit with the correct earth-leakage device, and keep the cold-tail termination in a dry, accessible junction box.
Factory & Quality
SunAura designs and builds these mats at our own Qingdao production base, where the heating element, lamination and outer jacket are processed in-house rather than assembled from bought-in kits. Every production run is sample-tested for output, insulation resistance and waterproof sealing, and records are kept per batch. Because we engineer and manufacture the product ourselves, we can talk through your project parameters directly with the team that built it – which is how contractors and distributors in more than 50 countries have come back to us season after season.
Packaging & Shipping
Mats are rolled onto cores, wrapped in moisture-proof film and packed in export cartons, with the cold tails protected so they survive international transit. Goods ship by sea, air or express courier under EXW or FOB terms, and the CE/RoHS documentation is issued with the shipment. For seasonal programmes, we recommend placing orders ahead of autumn so stock and custom sizes arrive before the first cold snap.
OEM / ODM & Private Label
We manufacture under our own brand and as an OEM/ODM partner for heating distributors, contractors and trade brands. Customisation includes voltage, wattage, mat width and length, jacket material, colour, connector ends and private-label packaging and documentation. Send us your target market and specifications and our engineering team will develop the mat to your drawing rather than selling you an off-the-shelf sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many driveway snow and ice melting mats do I need for a driveway or walkway?
Measure the area you actually need to keep clear – usually the driven wheel tracks and the main foot path, not the whole yard. Each mat covers its stated area (for example, a 6 m² sheet covers 0.5 × 12 m). Send us your measured dimensions and we will calculate the number of sheets and how to split them across circuits.
Should I choose 110–120 V or 220–240 V for this driveway snow and ice melting mat?
Match the mat to your available supply. 110–120 V builds suit standard North American household circuits; 220–240 V builds suit most of Europe and Asia. Larger driveways and commercial ramps often use the higher voltage and the higher-wattage sheets because a single circuit can cover more area. We will confirm the circuit load for your build.
Do these mats need a snow sensor to work?
They can run on a simple thermostat, but a dedicated snow/ice sensor is strongly recommended because it switches the mat on only when precipitation and freezing temperature coincide. This is what makes the system automatic and energy-efficient – otherwise it runs continuously and wastes power on dry days.
How long does a driveway snow and ice melting mat last outdoors?
Built with a waterproof, UV- and salt-resistant jacket and a protected resistive element, these mats are engineered for long, maintenance-free outdoor service life. When embedded correctly with a snow/ice sensor and protected by an earth-leakage device, they are designed to run season after season without attention.
Can the mats be left on through spring?
Once the freeze-thaw season is over, switch the system off at the isolating switch. Because the sensor only activates on moisture plus near-freezing temperature, it will not heat unnecessarily in mild weather, but powering it down for the warmer months is good practice. Surface-laid mats can also be rolled up and stored for summer.
